Oiled Wood

General Information
Oiled wood, used extensively for its natural aesthetic and resilience, involves high-quality species like Solid Oak and Beech. Each species showcases unique characteristics such as color, grain, and hardness. Our wood is sustainably sourced, ensuring it is free from defects like knots, sap, or cracks to maintain its integrity and appearance.

Some pieces feature a combination of solid and veneered wood surfaces. Care instructions apply to both unless otherwise stated.

Care & Maintenance
To maintain the beauty and durability of oiled wood, wiping with a lightly damp cloth is sufficient. Unless there is visible damage or wear, additional treatment is not necessary. If desired, specialist wood oil can be used occasionally to nourish the surface, but this is not essential. There is no need for initial oil treatment upon purchase.

Cleaning & Stain Removal
*Instructions for sanding and oiling apply only to solid wood parts.

For minor scratches and scuffs, lightly sand the area with fine-grit (180) sandpaper in the direction of the grain, then apply wood oil if needed. Remove stubborn stains such as ink or soot with a mild detergent or appropriate solvent, then sand lightly if necessary before re-oiling. For deeper stains, such as those caused by liquids or markers, sand with finer grits starting from 150 up to 180 before re-oiling. Always treat the cleaned or sanded area with oil to restore its protective coating.

Directions
Before oiling, ensure the wood surface is clean and dry. Clean with a soft cloth dampened with soapy water approximately 12 hours before oil application. Apply the oil along the grain using a lint-free cloth or an abrasive sponge. Allow the oil to absorb for 15-20 minutes before wiping away any excess with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. Leave to dry overnight. For areas that appear dry within 24 hours, additional treatment is recommended. Properly treated wood can be used carefully after about 24 hours, but the oil fully hardens in seven days.

Caution
When sanding or applying oil, ensure even treatment over a large area to avoid uneven wear. Avoid direct contact of steel objects with oak surfaces to prevent chemical reactions that cause black stains. Never pour oil directly onto the furniture, and avoid using steel wool or ammonia-based cleaners as they can damage the wood’s finish and integrity. Additionally, protect wood from prolonged exposure to sunlight to prevent fading and discoloration. Be cautious with placing hot items directly on the wood; always use coasters or protective mats to safeguard against heat damage.
